<p>The Lamanai Field Research Center in Belize, in partnership with the University of Florida seeks a competent, self-motivated field assistant to implement and maintain a community-based landscape conservation program for wild cats which includes the jaguar, puma, ocelot, jaguarundi and margay. The internship is part of a greater effort to engage local communities in wildlife protection whilst minimizing threats to their farming operations in contact zones where people and wild animals are forced to share a landscape, for more information see website (<a href="http://www.lamanai.org/projects/cats/">http://www.lamanai.org/projects/cats/</a>).<br />

<p>Duties include establishing and maintaining a camera trapping grid, tracking cats using prints, scat and signs, radio telemetry, GPS surveying, vegetation sampling, data entry and some data analyses and writing. The assistant must be field-oriented and able to work in adverse field conditions (i.e., heat and bugs) on a flexible schedule but also be a people-person to interact with landowners and community-members on a regular basis. Applicants must be versed in computer skills, be able to drive manual transmission and have experience with working on field projects. Experience with ATV’s and/or off-road driving and the ability to speak Spanish, is preferred but not required. International travel and full room and board will be covered for the duration of the internship. </p>
