Wildlife Research Adventures [DRAFT]
Our Wildlife Research Adventure listed below can be booked whenever you like. Alternatively, we can set up a custom itinerary just for you and your group. Please contact us at info@lamanai.org for additional information.
The Lamanai Wildlife Research Adventure
Visit gorgeous Lamanai for exploration and conservation. We’ll meet you at the airport and take you to your lodgings by riverboat while our expert guides teach you about the New River’s wildlife. That evening, we’ll equip you with a headlamp and point out the creatures of the night on a guided night walk. As your adventure continues, you’ll go on a Crocodile Encounter to assist in our ongoing monitoring project and learn about crocodile ecology up close. Next, visit our camera traps and see how many of Belize’s five wild cat species have been roaming around recently and chat with our local landowner partners about their newfound appreciation for large wild cats. If you’re really observant, you might find some paw prints or tufts of fur. Over the next few days, hop on our airboat for a spotlight river safari, tour the Maya ruins, museum and nature reserve, walk through the jungle at dawn to find black howler monkeys, see how many of Lamanai’s nearly 400 bird species you can spot, and take an evening walk with a blacklight to see insects in a completely new way. Check out the itinerary below for a full list of planned activities.
Custom Wildlife Research Adventures
We are happy to organize a custom itinerary for your group. You may choose for your custom adventure to involve a variety of Lamanai’s activities, or to focus on a specific area such as wild cats, crocodiles, birds or archaeology. Any of our various naturalist activities can also be included.
Trips include accommodations and activities at Lamanai. We can also arrange travel to and activities at other nearby locations before or after your stay at Lamanai. Guatemala is a great option for additional archaeology and herpetology activities, while Belize’s offshore islands provide excellent opportunities to see manatees and go snorkeling on the barrier reef. Other locations to consider are Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and Chiquibul National Park in Belize’s Cayo District.
Email us at info@lamanai.org and we’ll customize the perfect trip just for you.
