Wildlife Research Adventures

Come and join us for the adventure of a lifetime in one of nature’s best kept secrets, Belize. Participate in our research projects and explore everything Lamanai has to offer, from Mayan ruins and spotlight nature safaris to sunset canoe rides and learning how to make tortillas from scratch, all in the company of our expert naturalist guides and field researchers.

Our Belize Crocodile Research Adventure listed below is held each summer. We can also set up a custom itinerary just for you and your group. Please contact us at info@lamanai.org with any questions.

Belize Crocodile Research Adventure

Take part in a very exciting research project that investigates the distribution and ecology of a top predator in the food chain and a vital contributor to the ecosystem, the crocodile. There is little to no data on crocodiles living in marsh habitats in Belize and without your active participation much of these important data will go undocumented and the species may slip through our fingers with no hard data on who these incredible animals really are. With your help, we will collect and mark individuals, track growth and survival, and conduct counts to get a hold on the species’ distribution, response to seasonal changes and population numbers in the marshlands. You will be making a meaningful contribution to science, to conservation efforts of both the Morelet’s crocodile and the American crocodile, and to wildlife conservation in Belize.

Custom Wildlife Research Adventures

We are happy to organize a custom itinerary for your group. You may choose for your custom adventure to involve a variety of Lamanai’s activities, or to focus on a specific area such as wild cats, crocodiles, birds or archaeology. Any of our various naturalist activities can also be included.

Trips include accommodations and activities at Lamanai. We can also arrange travel to and activities at other nearby locations before or after your stay at Lamanai. Guatemala is a great option for additional archaeology and herpetology activities, while San Pedro Town in Belize’s Ambergris Caye provides excellent opportunities to see manatees and go snorkeling on the barrier reef.

To plan a custom adventure, email us at info@lamanai.org.
